Construction issues of refractory castables, plastic materials, and ramming materials for furnace construction

2024-05-31 15:04:15

In the industrial production field of our country, the application of refractory materials is very extensive, especially in high-temperature furnaces and thermal equipment. Refractory materials are the key to ensuring stable production. Refractory castables, plastic materials, and ramming materials are common refractory materials, and their construction quality directly affects the operation effect and service life of the furnace.

1、 Construction issues of refractory castables

Refractory castable is a type of refractory material with high strength, fire resistance, and corrosion resistance, widely used in the insulation layer and refractory layer of furnaces and kilns. During the construction process, the following issues may be encountered:

1. Uneven mixing of castables: If the refractory castables are not mixed evenly, it will lead to uneven distribution of fibers in the castables, affecting their overall performance. Therefore, during the construction process, attention should be paid to controlling the mixing time to ensure that the pouring material is mixed evenly.

2. Excessive pouring speed: Excessive pouring speed can cause bubbles to not escape in time, forming pores and reducing the density and strength of the pouring material. During construction, the pouring speed should be controlled to ensure that the pouring material slowly and evenly fills the mold.

3. Unclean mold cleaning: If there are impurities such as oil stains and moisture inside the mold, it can cause bonding between the casting material and the mold, affecting the demolding and subsequent construction of the casting material. Therefore, the molds should be cleaned before construction.

2、 Plastic construction issues

Plastic is a refractory material with plasticity, fire resistance, and adhesion, suitable for the refractory layer and repair layer of furnaces and kilns. During the construction process, the following issues may be encountered:

1. Uneven mixing of plastic materials: If the mixing of plastic materials is not uniform, it can lead to unstable material performance after sintering, affecting its service life. Therefore, during the construction process, it is necessary to ensure that the plastic can be mixed evenly.

2. Improper temperature control during construction: Temperature control is very important for plastic during the construction process. Low temperature can cause plastic to solidify too quickly, affecting construction; If the temperature is too high, it can lead to plastic sintering and reduce its performance. During construction, the construction temperature should be controlled according to the material requirements.

3. Uneven repair: During the operation of the furnace, the refractory layer may be damaged and requires the use of plastic for repair. If the repair is uneven, it will lead to uneven temperature distribution inside the furnace and affect production efficiency. Therefore, when repairing, it should be ensured that the plastic can be applied evenly.

3、 Construction issues with ramming materials

Ramming material is a refractory material with high strength, wear resistance, and fire resistance, suitable for the wear-resistant layer and support layer of furnaces and kilns. During the construction process, the following issues may be encountered:

1. Uneven tamping force: If the tamping force is uneven, it will lead to uneven density of the tamping material layer, affecting its wear resistance and fire resistance. Therefore, during the construction process, the compaction force should be controlled to make the compaction layer dense.

2. Improper handling of construction gaps: During the construction of rammed materials, if the gaps are not handled properly, it can lead to poor airflow inside the furnace and affect the efficiency of heat exchange. During construction, ensure that the gaps are fully filled and eliminate construction gaps.

3. Improper control of compaction time: If the compaction time is too short, it will lead to insufficient compaction of the compaction layer, affecting its performance; If the tamping time is too long, it can lead to excessive compaction of the tamping material layer, resulting in cracks. Therefore, during construction, the compaction time should be controlled to ensure that the compacted material layer reaches an appropriate density.

In summary, during the construction process of refractory castable materials, plastic materials, and ramming materials, attention should be paid to their respective characteristics and construction points. Choosing appropriate refractory materials, strictly controlling construction processes, and timely solving problems are the key to ensuring furnace performance and extending furnace life.
