Corundum bricks refer to refractory materials with alumina content greater than 90% and corundum as the main crystal phase. Corundum bricks have high compressive strength at room temperature and a high starting temperature for load softening (greater than 1700 ℃). Good chemical stability, with strong resistance to acidic or alkaline slag, metals, and glass liquids. The thermal shock stability is related to its organizational structure. Dense products have good corrosion resistance, but their thermal shock stability is poor. Corundum bricks are divided into two types: sintered corundum bricks and electric fused corundum bricks. Sintered alumina and fused corundum can be used as raw materials, or alumina clinker with Al2O3/SiO2 can be sintered with sintered alumina in the required ratio using the sintering method. Non fired corundum bricks can also be made using phosphoric acid or other binders. Mainly used in ironmaking blast furnaces and hot blast furnaces, refining furnaces outside steelmaking furnaces, sliding water heaters, glass furnaces, and petrochemical industry furnaces.

Corundum bricks have been widely used as lining materials in petrochemical thermal equipment with high temperature, high pressure, chemical erosion, and severe mechanical wear. With the progress of production technology in the petrochemical industry, in order to achieve the goals of high load, long cycle, low energy consumption, and low cost, in addition to transforming various thermal equipment, strict requirements have also been put forward for the lining materials of various thermal equipment. To this end, a series of corundum products with high temperature resistance and good corrosion resistance have been developed to meet the needs of the corundum brick industry.

In the non-ferrous smelting industry, the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of corundum bricks are significantly improved; In the petrochemical industry, due to long-term high temperature (1350-1450 ℃), high pressure, reducing atmosphere (CO+H2+CH4), and high airflow velocity (about 10 m · s-1), the gasification furnaces of large and medium-sized fertilizer plants have severe erosion and damage to the refractory materials of the furnace lining. Therefore, high requirements are placed on the refractory materials of the furnace lining. High performance corundum bricks have high density, strength, resistance to air flow erosion, and wear resistance. Introducing Cr2O3 into corundum bricks changes the internal quality of the product, significantly improving the resistance to slag erosion and permeability of the bricks. The use of corundum bricks in gasifiers can improve the service life of the gasifier.
