How to classify refractory materials

2024-03-01 08:49:47

Unshaped refractory material is an important refractory material, which is widely used in various high-temperature industrial furnaces, kilns, thermal equipment, etc. due to its excellent refractory and structural properties. There are various types of amorphous refractory materials, and their classification methods are also diverse. Among them, classification based on the type of binder, refractory aggregate, and construction method has great practicality and is widely used in the industry.

Unshaped refractory materials

1. Classification by type of binder

Unshaped refractory materials can be divided into two categories based on the type of binder: inorganic binder and organic binder. Inorganic binders include silicates, phosphates, sulfates, etc., while organic binders include resins, asphalt, etc. According to the hardening conditions, amorphous refractory materials can be divided into types such as hydraulic, gas hardening, and thermal hardening.

2. Classification by refractory aggregate variety

Unshaped refractory materials can be divided into two categories based on the type of refractory aggregate: heavy aggregate and lightweight aggregate. Heavy aggregates include siliceous, clay, high alumina, etc., while lightweight aggregates include perlite, vermiculite, mullite, etc. According to the different bulk densities of materials prepared with aggregates, amorphous refractory materials can be divided into heavy amorphous refractory materials and light amorphous refractory materials.

3. Classified by construction and production methods

Unshaped refractory materials can be divided into casting materials, ramming materials, plastic materials, spray coatings, coating materials, projection materials, pressed materials, unburned bricks, prefabricated blocks, refractory mud or refractory mud according to the construction and production methods. According to different uses, amorphous refractory materials can be divided into types such as refractory, refractory insulation, refractory alkali resistance, and refractory wear-resistant.

In addition, amorphous refractory materials can also be classified into high temperature, medium temperature, and low temperature types based on their usage temperature, as well as types named according to specific thermal equipment or parts, such as converter magnesium refractory spraying materials, ladle aluminum magnesium refractory castables, and blast furnace iron channel refractory castables.

In summary, there are various classification methods for amorphous refractory materials. Through understanding their classification, it is possible to better select and apply refractory materials that are suitable for specific needs, providing better technical support for industrial production and engineering construction.
