What is the difference between insulation bricks and refractory bricks?

2024-03-29 15:06:43

The main differences between insulation bricks and refractory bricks are as follows:

1. Insulation performance

The thermal conductivity of insulation bricks is generally between 0.2-0.4 (average temperature 350 ± 25 ℃) w/m.k, while the thermal conductivity of refractory bricks is above 1.0 (average temperature 350 ± 25 ℃) w/m.k. Therefore, it can be concluded that the insulation performance of insulation bricks is much better than that of refractory bricks.

2. Fire resistance

The fire resistance of insulation bricks is generally below 1400 degrees, while the fire resistance of refractory bricks is above 1400 degrees.

3. Density

Insulating bricks are generally lightweight insulation materials with a density of generally 0.8-1.0g/cm3, while the density of refractory bricks is generally above 2.0g/cm3.

Overall, refractory bricks have high mechanical strength, long service life, good chemical stability, no chemical reaction with materials, and good high-temperature resistance. The maximum heat resistance temperature can reach 1900 ℃. Especially suitable for high and low temperature shift furnaces, conversion furnaces, hydrogenation converters, desulfurization tanks, and methane furnaces in fertilizer plants,

It plays a role in dispersing gas and liquid, supporting, covering, and protecting the catalyst. It can also be used in hot blast furnaces and heating transformation equipment in the steel industry.

Refractory bricks have the advantages of high density, high strength, wear resistance, good corrosion resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, high grinding efficiency, low noise, long service life, and no contamination of materials. It is a high-quality grinding medium suitable for various grinding machinery.

The difference between refractory bricks and insulation bricks is significant, as their usage environment, scope, and function are all different. Different materials will be used in different locations. When selecting materials, we need to decide which refractory material is suitable for our own use based on our actual situation.
